Under the direction of Kathy Watson,
the Desert Star Sweethearts are (from left to right)
Mia Cooper, Kathy Watson, Sandi Royes, Jill Dryden,
Judy Meagher and (not pictured) Jan Schoeben. They
are all full time Green Valley residents except
for one dancing winter visitor and they range in
age from 50 to 68. These popular dancers are multi
talented women who are very active in other GVR
clubs as well as the line dance club. The Desert
Stars invite interested Green Valley Line Dance
Club members to visit their weekly practices on
Mondays from 3 to 5 pm at the Santa Rita Springs
recreation center in the Santa Cruz room. A requirement
for team membership is the completion of the Line
Dance 1, 2, and 3 classes and membership in the
club. Stage presence and a desire to perform are
definite assets
Each February, the Desert Star Sweethearts
are invited to perform their "young at heart"
line dance routines in the annual Green Valley Spring
Follies, at the West Center. They also entertain
for various homeowner associations, local and regional
organizations and private parties to promote line
dancing and the Line Dance Club. Several engagements
are already on their calendar for the upcoming fall
and winter seasons.
The
Desert Stars are known for their high energy and
uniquely custom designed performances. Their line
dancing is done to many styles of music such as
country-western, swing, salsa, waltz and rock and
roll. If you are interested in having the Desert
Stars perform for your group they can be reached
through the Green Valley Line Dance Club or by contacting
Kathy Watson, team captain and performance coordinator
at 399-1979.
