Trips and Tours

Our tours are organized and escorted by Pleasurebent Tours of Tucson. Green Valley Recreation has had a long term and very positive relationship with Pleasurebent Tours. Our tours leave from Desert Hills Social Center upper parking lot at the advertised time. The tours can be purchased at any office or online.

The tour fee includes motor coach transportation, tour director, admissions, advertised meal (tax and tip) and driver tip. Because of the necessity of the tour company to pre-arrange and pre-pay for bus accommodations, admission tickets and meals, no refunds will be issued after the cancellation date stated on the reservation confirmation. All trips are open to GVR Members and their guests.

Please note the last date for cancellation of a trip. Because of contractual commitments, refunds can not be made after the cancellation date.

Musical Instrument Museum

Travel with us to one of the best museums in the United States—the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) in Scottsdale. The MIM displays more than 6,800 instruments from over 200 countries! Displays are enhanced by state-of-the-art audio and video systems that allow you to see and hear the instruments being played in their in their original context. Contemporary artists such from Pablo Casals to Elvis Presley to Bing Crosby are highlighted in the Artists’ Gallery. Player pianos, mechanical zithers, and cylinder music boxes are featured in the Mechanical Gallery, and there is even a STEM Gallery to explore the science behind music and musical instruments. We will journey to the museum in the morning and turn you loose for a day’s self-guided exploring of this a fabulous place. Lunch will be at the Museum’s award-winning café at your own leisure before you head back into (literally!) a world of music before we travel home. Rocky Point

GVR has partnered with Gray Line to offer you this opportunity to travel to Rocky Point, Mexico with bilingual guide Bob. They offer expedited border crossing and speedy hotel bus check-in service. On day two, simply enjoy the beach or local shops or take advantage of some of the optional activities available. On day three, our bus will take us to the Old Port for an afternoon of dining and curio shopping (on your own), sightseeing; and if interested, buying fish to take home, so bring your coolers! Dust off your passports and plan to spend four days on the beach in Rocky Point. Fee includes roundtrip transportation, 3 nights lodging at the Peñasco del Sol Beach Resort, transportation to the Old Port in Rocky Point. Scottsdale Museum of the West and Eddie Basha Collection

Today we travel north to the Phoenix area to immerse ourselves in the art of the American West. Our first visit is the outstanding Scottsdale Museum of the West – named “Best Western Museum” by the readers of True West magazine – with exhibitions of Western Artists (including Frederic Remington and Charles Russell), Native American Arts, a unique sculpture courtyard and more. After lunch at Café Forte we explore the Eddie Basha Collection, the result of “a hobby turned into a passion.” The gallery now displays one of the world’s largest private collections of contemporary Western American and American Indian Art. Marana’s “Top” Stops!

Today is a tour of “Tops” in Marana, starting with Top Golf, a premiere entertainment venue with fun point-scoring golf games for all skill levels (clubs provided!) At Cayton’s at the Ritz Carlton Dove Mountain you’ll enjoy the Tucson-area’s top burger and top views of a top resort and the Tortolita Mountains. Did you know that two top craft breweries are in Marana? We will visit side-by-side Button Brewhouse and Catalina Brewing Company to “top off” this tip-top tour of the town of Marana! Comedy, Hotrods and a Brewery – A Sizzlin’ Saturday Night

This tour is sure to make you smile! First stop: a Tucson brewery to learn about the emerging Tucson craft beer scene, tour the facility, and enjoy tasting some local brews. Next stop is Hot Rods Old Vail, where we will see working restorations and automotive masterpieces taking shape through the expansive garage bay windows and enjoy a delicious dinner, vintage pinball, billiards and plenty of classic cars. To cap off the evening, just in case you haven’t had enough fun yet, we will see Vail Laughs, a clean comedy show, at the Vail Theater of the Arts. . Glass and Galleries

Take a day to explore Tucson art, beginning downtown with a tour and glass-blowing demonstration at the Sonoran Glass School. Our art-inspired lunch will be at Café à la C’Art, located in the historic 1865 Stevens House. After lunch we visit another gem—the Mark Sublette Medicine Man Gallery. Once known only for antique and Native American art, it now houses the finest in Early American and Western paintings. The works of over 30 well-known contemporary artists and sculptors are represented. Works range from the ethereal realism of Peter Nisbet paintings to the cubist works of Ed Mell to the western sculpture and paintings. Contained within the gallery is a museum dedicated to works by renowned western artist Maynard Dixon. We will enjoy a presentation on Native American rugs and basketry as well as a tour. Our final stop is the Madaras Gallery, featuring the largest collection of Tucson art by Diana Madaras and 26 other guest artists. Madaras’ bold, colorful artwork recently earned her Tucson’s Best Visual Artist for the 9th time. This day is just a glimpse into the rich creative scene in Tucson, but is full of memorable, not-to-be-missed experiences. Trees & Gems, Glass & Sky: Exploring U of A Science Superstars

Explore what makes the University of Arizona a global leader in science. We begin with a visit to Flandrau Planetarium on the University of Arizona (U of A) campus in the morning for our own, exclusive planetarium show presented by one of their undergraduate “Console Captains!” Then experience the hands-on science, space exhibits and spectacular minerals, gems and fossils in the Mineral Collection downstairs. After lunch at Gentle Ben’s, we take a guided tour of the Mirror Lab, where we learn how innovative engineering and optical technology melds with manufacturing techniques to produce the largest and most advanced giant telescope mirrors in the world! We cap our science adventure with a guided tour at the Tree Ring Lab, established in 1937 and for many years, the only tree-ring research lab in the world. We’ll learn about the history and science of dendrochronology and its worldwide impacts on other branches of science. Join us for a uniquely interesting and thought-provoking day. Vessels to Bottles: Arizona State University Ceramics and Art Tour

Travel with us to two outstanding art museums at Arizona State University in Tempe. We first explore the ASU Art Museum, which focuses on works by regional and emerging artists, contemporary craft of ceramics, fibers and wood, historic and contemporary prints and historic American art. We then tour the ASU Ceramics Research Center, which houses and displays the museum’s extensive ceramic collection of close to 4,000 pieces. We walk to a delicious lunch at Rúla Búla Irish Pub and Restaurant before topping off our day with a tasting tour of Adventurous Stills, a craft whiskey distillery in Tempe where they craft premium spirits by hand, from grain to bottle.
