Green Valley Recreation Inc. (GVR) is a membership-based 501(c)(4) non-profit that provides a wide variety of recreation, social, and leisure opportunities to approximately 80% of households in the Green Valley, AZ area. GVR owns and operates fourteen recreation centers including an award-winning, 24-court pickleball center.

GVR’s mission is to provide recreational, social and leisure education opportunities that enhance the quality of our members’ lives.

Scott Somers

Scott has been in local government management for 17 years. He is the former City Manager of College Park, Maryland, home to the University of Maryland. Prior to College Park, he held the positions of County Manager for Clatsop County, Oregon; City Manager for Reedsport, Oregon; Assistant City Administrator for Savage, Minnesota; Assistant to the City Manager for White Bear Lake, Minnesota; Management Intern for the City of Tucson, Arizona; and Staff Assistant for an Arizona U.S. Senator.

Scott has a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Arizona and a bachelor’s degree in social work from Arizona State University. He was admitted to Pi Alpha Alpha, the Global Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration in 2003. He is a member of the International City/County Managers Association (ICMA) and an ICMA Credentialed Manager. He is a previous member of the board of the Maryland City/County Managers Association and a previous member of the Maryland Municipal League, Legislative Committee.

Scott is a past board member of the Oregon City/County Managers Association. He was a member of the Finance Focus Group for the League of Oregon Cities and a member of the Legislative Committee for the Association of Oregon Counties. While in Minnesota, Scott was a member of the Minnesota City/County Managers Association and a past president of the Association of Public Management Professionals of Minnesota.

Scott was first on skis when he was two years old and remains an avid downhill skier. As a native Tucsonan, he could not be happier to be back home with family and friends and living in the beautiful Sonoran Desert that he loves. Scott is passionate about fitness and nutrition, and enjoys gardening, landscaping, hiking, traveling, and adventuring.

Jen Morningstar

Jen hails from the Detroit area and later Indiana where she worked in information technology and service industries; she has lived in Southern Arizona for 16 years. Members see her work when they attend GVR governance functions, pay their dues, become GVR members or move to a new property, and when they vote in the annual election. Jen relaxes by creating things out of wood or paper or fabric. She is a golfer and she loves to share a good laugh.

 

Cheryl Moose

Cheryl Moose is originally from Washington State and moved to the Tucson area in 2010 along with her husband Bob, dogs Jake and Xena, and Cody the cat. She has over 35 years of experience in non-profit and governmental accounting and is a dually licensed CPA in Washington and Arizona. She began working as the Controller for GVR in July of 2014. Much of Cheryl’s work is “behind the scenes” but members do see her work in the administration of the Member Assistance Program and various financial reports.

 

David Webster

David started working at GVR in 2018 after moving to Tucson from Kentucky. As a basketball fan, he has adopted the Arizona Wildcats but his true loyalty still lies with the other Wildcats at the University of Kentucky. David has been keeping books for 40 years spent 25 years as the CFO of a very successful Engineering Firm in Lexington, KY. Fortunately for David, he is still married to his high school sweetheart and has a daughter that is horse crazy in Kentucky and a son attending Law school in Philadelphia.  When you hear someone at a GVR Board meeting or Fiscal Affairs Committee with a Southern accent, it’s probably him. David has been playing saxophone semi -professionally longer than he has been an Accountant and has played with acts like The Temptations, Four Tops, and Percy Sledge.

 

David Jund

David Jund has served in construction and facilities roles for 27 years, including over 12 years at Arizona Theatre Company as Assistant Facilities Manager. As the Facilities Director, he oversees 62 facilities staff who are performing functions including design, construction, capital planning, project management, waste management, maintenance, cleaning services, aquatics, and landscaping for all GVR facilities. As a member of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), David is working on the Sustainability Facility Professional credential                            

When not working, David enjoys painting and spending time with his many kitties and two dogs.

 

Kris Zubicki

Kris is originally from New Jersey but moved to Arizona in 1994. She worked for 19 years in Training and Development, creating training curricula for Customer Service Representatives and managing a team of Instructional Designers in the US, Canada, Costa Rica, and India.

Kris joined the GVR family in 2015 as a Customer Service Representative, then worked as GVR’s Senior Supervisor for Classes & Tours before she was promoted to the position of Director of Recreation Services. Members enjoy the work of the Recreation team any time they take a class, visit a fitness room, enjoy their clubs, attend a performance, or reserve a meeting space.

Sahuarita is home to Kris, her daughter, husband, and their two dogs.

 

Natalie Whitman

Natalie hails from the northwest corner of Washington State where she worked in social services and conservation. Members may be familiar with her work in centers, as well as responding to the hotline and composing the weekly eblasts. Nat has lofty goals as the Communications Manager. She hopes to foster a warm and friendly relationship among members, leadership, and staff; her aim being that all parties feel both informed and heard. When not clicking away on GVR keyboards, Nat can often be found enjoying the wild outdoors.

 

Dee Schisel

Dee has lived in several states since her youth including Colorado, Indiana, Wisconsin and of course, Arizona. She has been in the HR and Payroll fields for more than 15 years. She is currently studying to become certified in the HR field with either a PHR or SHRM-CP designation (or both) this year. Dee loves being a resource for the staff team at GVR and collaborating with all departments in creating and maintaining good relationships with each other. Her hobbies include sewing and anything crafty, writing poetry and short children’s stories, and hanging out with her 3 children and their Akita, Shugosha.

 

Randy Cheatham

Randy Cheatham is from Alabama where he studied music and worked as a touring musician until moving to Arizona in 2000. He has worked in all areas of IT for over 20 years and has been with GVR since 2012. Randy is a Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA), a Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) and holds multiple CompTIA certifications. He continues to study at Pima Community College. Members encounter the IT team’s work when they call the centers, visit the website, join a Zoom meeting, or watch GVR meetings and events on YouTube.

Randy is the proud father of one son and still works as a part time musician in the Tucson area.
