- The Desert Hills locker room project is on schedule for a mid-August completion date. Exterior painting continues. Watch gate signs for detours as the work progresses around the building.
- At Casa Paloma II the shower rooms are closed for wall and tile repairs and will reopen September 2. The pool and spa will remain open throughout this work. Swimmers are welcome to change in the restroom across from the recreation room entrance.
- At Santa Rita Springs, the pool and spa will close on Sunday, August 3 for scheduled maintenance. The pool will be drained and replastered, then the deck will be resurfaced. This work is expected to take a minimum of six weeks. Watch this space and the pool gates for a reopening announcement.
- At Canoa Hills, the auditorium floor will close for refinishing from Monday, July 28 through Thursday, July, 31. Reopens Friday, August 1. By that time the piano at Casa Paloma II will be accessible again.
- At West Center, the new Metal Working Crafts Club shop and expanded Artisans’ Shop are on schedule for an August completion.
- At Abrego South, the aquatics facilities closed July 10 due to a water leak. Those amenities will remain closed for now. Regular users of the site have no doubt noticed cracks and surface irregularities developing over the past few years. The site has also been prone to leaks in the underground plumbing. All of this suggests that there is subsidence occurring in the area. In the past six to eight weeks, new cracks have appeared and others have enlarged. Surface irregularities on the pool deck have also grown, posing trip hazards. Staff have been keeping a careful eye on the situation. We have verified leaks in the pool plumbing and spa. Last week, staff toured the site with inspectors from the Santa Rita Fire District. SRFD consulted with Pima County building inspectors, who determined that at this time, the shower building is not occupiable.
- Next steps include a geotechnical survey and core drilling, and consultation with a structural engineer. With reports and advice from these specialists, we will better understand our options. We do not yet have enough information to predict a reopening date.
- The recreation room is open for drop-in use. Members using the sports courts will be welcome to access the restrooms, so drop-in users should anticipate traffic through the room.
