GVR has six fitness centers open from 5:30am-9pm seven days per week:

GVR Centers have a variety of fitness equipment and activities to keep you in shape. Members will find cardiovascular and strength training equipment at the six major centers.

Free Personal Training Options 

GVR offers fitness training options to help members get the most out of their fitness center experience.
 
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Please contact Lee Smith GVR Fitness Coordinator at LeeS@GVRec.org to register for the following:
1. Attend a free fitness center orientation at the center you plan to use for your exercise workout. The orientation includes a tour of the cardio and strength training equipment and a group orientation to the adjustments and proper use of the equipment. Schedules and registration information for orientations are posted in each fitness center. 
2. 30-minute personal training consultation with a GVR personal trainer is offered to those who wish to have a personalized fitness program designed with goals and any medical needs in mind.
3. 30-minute Introductory to Resistance Band Training is training with bands and a great way to stay active and strong. Learn how to utilize resistance bands to strengthen functional movement patterns of daily life. We will show you how to train push, pull, press, squat, hinge, and lunge movement patterns that are convenient, versatile, and joint-friendly. Benefits include improved strength, balance, endurance, coordination, mobility, core stability, and flexibility.

Free Movement Assessment

GVR trainers are ready to help you. Movement assessments identify muscle imbalances around the joint, focusing on both overactive and underactive muscles. Trainers take a systematic approach, evaluating the body, for neutral alignment, symmetry, balanced muscle tone, and any postural imbalances. Areas of focus include the feet and ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, head, and cervical spine.

Punching Parkinsons – Non-Contact Boxing (by appointment)
Boxing can be a very effective exercise for Parkinson’s disease. Boxing is known for helping to improve hand-eye coordination, balance, and agility through a combination of both cardio and strength training. The boxing techniques used in this therapy are modified and involve no-contact.
Individual 30-minute session: $35
Eight Individual 30-minute sessions: $240

John Cox

John specializes in senior fitness, focusing on the unique needs of staying active as we age. He tailors workouts to individual goals and abilities, offering both low and high-impact exercises. Low-impact sessions improve balance, endurance, and core strength, while high-impact workouts focus on weight training and learning how to use available equipment effectively. John is dedicated to helping you stay strong, healthy, and confident.

Jeanie Cooper

With 25 years of nursing experience and advanced expertise in physiology, Jeanie brings a unique blend of knowledge and care to her clients. Specializing in joint replacement recovery, osteoporosis, cancer rehab, and heart disease exercise strategies, Jeanie is passionate about helping individuals regain strength and mobility. Whether you’re seeking personalized attention or small group support, Jeanie is here to guide you every step of the way.

Roberto Braga

Roberto is a personal trainer with over 11 years of experience and a background as a high-performance athlete. He specializes in creating customized training programs that fit each client’s unique needs and goals. With a passion for fitness and bodybuilding, Roberto is committed to helping clients overcome challenges and achieve their best through expert, personalized guidance. Suzanne Polzin

Suzanne has a wealth of expertise with over 30 years of experience in group fitness and personal training, including working in sports rehabilitation clinics and providing specialized training for stroke and brain-injured clients. Suzanne is a natural motivator who inspires and challenges clients to reach their full potential.

Jaymon Cervantes

With years of experience and a background in college baseball, Jaymon brings his expertise in strength training and confidence building to every client. A graduate in corporate fitness, Jaymon is equally dedicated in the gym and on the field, coaching high school baseball in Tucson. Jaymons enthusiasm and expertise will liberate you with each fitness routine.

Shaun McGuire

Shaun is a certified personal trainer with experience training University of Arizona and Olympic athletes. He holds a doctorate in chiropractic and focuses on functional movements to improve gait, balance, strength, range of motion, and neuromuscular recruitment using yoga/Swiss balls and bodyweight exercises. A nutrition expert, Shaun has taught college and postgraduate courses, enhancing his knowledge of metabolic, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, immune, and reproductive systems. He’s eager to help you achieve your fitness goals.

 

Micki McCollister

Micki is a former Health Educator and RN with 25 plus years of experience in working with cardiac and stroke patients. She was a medical researcher and has extensive knowledge in nutrition. She is a lifelong fitness enthusiast with 30 years of weight training experience. Her focus is on functional fitness to maximize mobility throughout the aging process. Micki is passionate about empowering clients to embrace a healthier lifestyle to be the best version of themselves.

Allan Carter

Allan is a dedicated expert in functional fitness, exercise therapy, senior fitness, and nutrition, with a proven track record of helping clients aged 55 and over overcome disabilities and injuries. His passion for empowering the senior community to achieve health and wellness goals shines through in every session. With Allan’s support, you’ll not only regain strength and mobility but also discover a new zest for life.

 

Daniela Cawthorn

Daniela brings over 20 years of experience in training and teaching a diverse range of fitness classes, including functional fitness, yoga, Pilates, and strength training. Her contagious passion and enthusiasm for health and fitness make every session inspiring and uplifting. Regardless of one-on-one training or small groups, Daniela is committed to creating a supportive environment for your fitness journey.

NEW! Tennis Bootcamp 

Fitness trainer Shaun McGuire explores the biomechanics of tennis, focusing on core strength, agility, and flexibility, with emphasis on the hips, shoulders, and spine. Tennis Boot Camp highlights how muscle tightness affects serves and groundstrokes. Improving balance, flexibility, stability, strength, and power, this course benefits participants’ health and enhances game play.

NEW! Balance Progression 

Balance training is designed to enhance control during everyday activities, helping to improve physical function and quality of life. It can reduce the fear of falling, boost fall-related confidence, and even increase walking speed. The program progresses through three levels: resisting motion, loaded movements, and explosive exercises, each building on the last to strengthen stability and mobility.

Resistance Band Small Group Training 

Resistance band training is a low impact, safe, and efficient way to build strength, improve flexibility and support balance without weights. The class is oriented toward seniors who have recently done little or no regular exercise. Small group training will allow each person to get individual attention. Wear loose clothes, sneakers, and bring water. All equipment will be provided. Please come 20 minutes early for the first class.

Parkinson’s Functional Fitness 4 Life 

The training program consists of functional movements that target different aspects of fitness, such as high intensity interval training, resistance, flexibility, and balance training. Additionally, the program includes non-contact boxing exercises. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to exercise and Parkinson’s disease. Research shows that exercise and physical activity help maintain and improve mobility, flexibility, balance, and quality of life, as well as manage the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

Box your way to fitness

Experience a full-body challenge with boxing training sessions combining intense cardio and strength exercises.
